Athlete of the Week
May 13 - May 19

Girls Track & Field - Emily Palmer

Emily Palmer is the girls varsity track team's Athlete of the Week.  Last season, Emily was a dominant force for the girl's track program as the team's best athlete in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100M Dash, and the 4 x 100m Relay team. This year, she has continued her domination by earning the most competition points so far this season in our meets.  This past week, in the biggest meet of the season, the REK INVITE held in Norwich, she was the runner-up Female Athlete of the Meet.  She took top honors in the Triple Jump, First-place in the Long Jump and she earned second place finishes in the 4 x 100 Relay and 100M Dash.  She easily topped the Sectional Qualifying standards in all 4 events, just missed the State Qualifying time, and is zeroing in on the S-E school records for all four events.  She has always been one of the strongest and most talented sprinters and jumpers on the team.  But more importantly, she is forever encouraging her teammates, helping each of them reach greater heights for themselves and the team.  Her devotion to excellence, dedication and hard work while overcoming difficult challenges earned her the Ironman Eagle Award.  She is an outstanding role model, compassionate leader/athlete and a remarkable young woman representing our school and the varsity athletic programs.

Boys Tack & Field - Brian Campbell

Junior, Brian Campbell, is this week's boys track and field Athlete of the Week.  Brian has had a good season so far competing in the sprint races.  He leads the team with the fastest times in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, both of which he has qualified to run at the Section 3 Class B Championship meet.  He's also long jumping and running on the 4 x 100 meter relay team.  I tell the team “you have to train fast to be fast” and that's Brian at practice, it's never hard to get him to go fast.  Congratulations Brian!
