January 1 - January 7

Girls Bowling - Mandi LaClair

Mandi LaClair has been selected as our Athlete of the Week. She is a 9th grader that started bowling as a young child.  Mandi began bowling seriously in 7th grade. This is her third official year bowling on a team. As a coach I am very impressed with her dedication and attention to this sport. Her attendance is perfect, attending every try-out, practice and match. When being coached she listens and incorporates it into her bowling. Mandi is respectful, polite and extremely helpful with addressing the needs of others on the team. She understands more than anyone on the team the journey that a new struggling bowler has to take. Mandi has shown a marked improvement in the last year. She definitely has earned the honor of Athlete of the Week due to being the highlight of every match with incredible scores and series. At this time in the season Mandi's high game is a 214 and a 603 series.  She is the high holder of 10 turkeys and 4 hambones. Mandi is truly a force to be reckoned with… when you hear thunder; it's Mandi, tearing up the lanes!

Swimming - Ethan Kurth

Ethan Kurth is the boys varsity swim team Athlete of the Week. This is Ethan's second year of swimming/diving and he remains the teams #1 Diver.  He smashed his own school record in his very first meet, scoring 196 points, more than 20 points higher than his previous school record. Ethan has easily qualified for diving in the upcoming 2012 Sectional Championship Meet. He is undefeated in his first 4 meets of the season and continually dominates the field of other divers.  He has made an immediate impression on his coaches, officials, and other competitors. Ethan's outstanding athletic abilities, diving ability, and relentless work ethic make him the best diver in S-E history.  In addition, he's one of the team's best swimmers!  He is one second shy of the sectional qualifying time in the 50 Freestyle and 2 seconds off the 100 Freestyle Qualifying time.  He ranks third on the team for the most points accumulated in our first four meets.  Ethan continually amazes his coaches and team with his incredible diving, his new advanced dive list and becoming an even faster swimmer.
